CANCUN , PLAYA DEL CARMEN, & COZUMEL

The Yucatan Peninsula including Cancun, Cozumel and  Playa Del Carmen is one of those rare treasures that appeals to everyone. There are enough different activities, that spending even a week may not be enough.  If you want to enjoy the sun and sand from sunup to sundown, the beaches rival those found anywhere in the world.  Clear blue and aqua waters and the second largest coral reef in the world make for excellent snorkeling and diving in Cozumel.  Windsurfing, parasailing, water skiing, and jet skis are just a few of the other popular water sports. If your idea of fun is to keep both feet on the ground, there are several 18 hole golf courses available.  

If you are looking for a place that heats up after the sun goes down, then Cancun is for you.  Nightclubs stay open until 7:00 a.m. and don't get jumping until after 10pm.  Whether you are looking for salsa, reggae, or rock you can find it at a different nightclub every night of the week.  Also, some restaurants offer dancing to live bands.  First-class restaurants await you including; Italian- while you watch the sun set over the lagoon, Mexican- famous for its margaritas and mariachi bands, seafood restaurants- where you can try octopus, and local restaurants offering a secluded alcove all to yourselves.  You will also find all of the popular U.S. restaurant chains including Outback Steak House, Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, Chili's, Johnny Rockets, and of course McDonalds.  You won't go hungry in Cancun.

If you want to explore the days which belonged to another culture, this area offers so much history.  Within an hour's drive you can explore Mayan ruins dating back to 300 A.D. and learn about the traditions and lifestyle of this ancient civilization.  You will pass Mayan towns along the way and you can add a snorkeling excursion before you head back.  If you are a nature lover, there are more mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles in Mexico than the United States and Canada.  Try one of the eco-archaeological parks which offer floating an underground river, snorkeling, folklore shows, a re-creation of a Mayan village, aquarium, horseback riding, and swimming with the dolphins.  

Shopping malls are plentiful in Cancun.  If you enjoy dickering, you can do so at street markets.  If you don't, bargains (sometimes even better prices) can be found at one of the four shopping malls.  Blankets, chess sets, tequila, and silver are all great choices.
